AT&T to Begin Unlocking iPhones Starting Sunday

Fri, 06 Apr 2012 Ā«permalinkĀ»

AT&T, the original iPhone carrier here in the US, has historically had a policy of never unlocking iPhones; even if your service contract has been completed.

Evidently, starting this Sunday, AT&T will begin offering unlocking service for customers who have completed their service contracts. This would allow for international travellers to use local SIM cards to cut down on roaming fees or even allow for domestic iPhone owners to switch to other compatible GSM carriers such as T-Mobile without having to jailbreak or use special unlocking SIM card hacks or software.
