Stock Android Isn't Perfect: These Are The Things I Can't Stand About Jelly Bean

Lest I be yelled at for being “just another Apple fanboy”, let me remind you that I’ve used Android before. Extensively. I developed Android apps under military contract. I’ve mentioned it a few times. That being said, it was some time ago. My experience with Android has been with Froyo, Gingerbread, and Honeycomb. I was using a Xoom the same month it came out1. And a lot of the things mentioned here are things that used to drive me crazy in the 6 months I had to use the platform at my old job, even back then.

And now for my requisite Apple come-about: There’s no way in hell this shit would fly on any of the stock stuff that Apple puts out on iOS. The linked post mentions that there are places in the stock app UI where Gooogle hasn’t even updated their skin to the Holo theme, still using UI elements established in the Android of yesteryear that so many of us wish to forget. It might seem like a little, persnickety thing to get upset about. But it’s attention to details; and not only that, it just plain shows how much they care about their products.

  1. Hah, hey, you guys! You remember the Xoom? What a spectacularly terrible name for a product.
